Appreciated Joker!
For others on this path, i also recommend checking out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vv4i8zYBps [youtube.com] (a little hard to watch but author says he will be re-doing it).
Question: Am I correct in understanding this is the primary way people get get particles to move properly when they are using them to drive Pyro simulations (instead of the basic Pyro-from-geo) approach?
thanks!

Houdini Learning Materials » wispy ink particles?

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I'd like to get my particles to ‘clump’ or ‘bunch up’ into thick strands, sort of like ink underwater.

i was starting to get some DECENT shapes with the older POPNET curlnoise, but it doesn't seem to be available with the new POPNET?
I'm grouping the particles into 4 groups with different drag values and that helps some, but i'm not getting that nice wispy coalescing i'm looking for.
I tried interact particles thinking i could get them to move towards eachother if they were close enough, but couldn't get that to work….
Also, i'd rather not use vortex filaments since i'm generating their overall paths procedurally…
thanks in advance!

Houdini Learning Materials » copy SOP? Something that should be simple...

Okay, I've got a problem so simple I am reticent to post here, but I've struggled for some time with this.
I need to ‘copy’ a bunch of metaballs from one object into another. When I use a Copy SOP, and just enter the ‘Source Group’ like this:
/obj/MASTER_ORB/metaballs1
I get an error, not enough sources specified. I don't want to use “template” (instructions say its optional), i just want a single instance of the object copied to my new network.
I tried something like this:
../../MASTER_ORB/metaballs1/Null/MAGNET_OUT
but still same problem. Tried instance SOP, nada. I know i'm missing something simple, so any help appreciated, thanks!

Mplay does not replay my audio, but i can play it in the main application. Every other app seems fine w/ it… Do .mp3 files play for others in Mplay?
I have tried all the variations of settings (and 2 .mp3 files so far) nada.
thanks,

Is this a known bug or am i doing something wrong?
When i try
File -> Export -> Video with the Audio Source set to ‘Current Audio Track’ and have an audio track that plays (down below in timeline), it wont imbed the audio in the exported .avi.
Same thing happens when i explicitly point to an Audio File with the option below Audio Source.
Any hints/suggestions?
thanks in advanece,

I'm going through the awesome Peter Quint tutorial located here:
http://vimeo.com/6931106 [vimeo.com]
which i'm guessing many of you have done already
For some reason, when I go to pass the color values from my CHOP network, the r,g,b fields are not green, they are aqua, the node has red stripes (not working correctly), and no colors are being passed.
I'm stuck at around 18:40, in his Vimeo video. Attached is a screenshot of my setup (Houdini on left, Quint video on right), I've spent hours trying to debug this but don't seem to be able. Is there some recent change in variable passing that might cause the exact part of the tutorial to be no longer valid?
ANY help greatly appreciated, i'm banging my head with this one.

i'm trying to do my first audio driven animation and having trouble.
I create a CHOP Network
Then I go inside and create a ‘File’, and select .mp3 or .wav or whatever.
When i switch to Channel View to verify it's there, i see nothing.
I would expect to see a kind of wave-form, correct?
Any help greatly appreciated, I know i'm missing something simple…
thanks in advance!
